A panic attack can feel like a heart attack: pounding chest, shortness of breath, dizziness, a wave of dread. It is terrifying, and the fear of the next one can start to shrink your world. The important thing to know is that panic is highly treatable, and you can feel steady again.
A whole-person approach to panic
Panic is a mind and body alarm that misfires. Psychotherapy helps you understand and work with the fear cycle; on the medical side we look at the physical triggers that keep the alarm sensitive: caffeine and blood sugar, sleep, thyroid and hormones, and chronic stress physiology. Calming the body makes the therapy work land.
What we look at
- Your panic pattern and the triggers and avoidance that feed it
- Caffeine, blood sugar, sleep, and stimulants that prime the alarm
- Thyroid, hormones, and other medical factors that mimic or worsen panic
- Whether generalized anxiety or low mood travel with it
